A Little Photoshop Goes A Long Way

As my magazine is mostly based on artistic beauty and generally making pictures look appealing without taking too much away from how it naturally looks I mostly played around with lighting effects. Changing the lighting in a scene can change the mood of the picture and thus affect the viewers perspective. In this picture of my room on a rainy day the picture is exceptionally dark but still has a bit of light shining on it. However, I decided that adding a little more lighting would make it seem like more of a sunny shower and also adds a little more detail into the scene. To make it more realistic as well I decided to place the lighting at the upper right corner to further make the image look as if the sun is shining more intensely into the window.

In the second picture of the ocean the one on the left is the original image. It can be seen that this image was taken in broad daylight while the sun was being covered by the clouds. I wanted it to be more dramatic however and show a more defined difference in atmosphere. Adding a lighting effect just where the sunlight shined gave the picture a darker hue in other areas creating the illusion that it is nighttime and the sun is setting, all while achieving my goal of keeping it as similar to the original as possible while still adding more interesting elements to the shot.
